Pop Culture / Misc. Carvings

Copper Bones  (Available)

"I have the key to One-Eyed Willie..."  He measures about 6.5" x 2.5".

Jason Lives (Available)

CH, CH, CH, AH, AH, AH... Welcome to Camp Crystal Lake where it's Friday the 13th all over again! This smaller version of Jason Voorhees started out as a completely different masked individual and kinda morphed into Jason as the carving went along. He's carved as a type of bust with a level bottom, so he can be displayed either hanging on a wall or sitting on a shelf. He measures about 6" x 2".

1-UP  (Available)

This 'fun guy' is one of my pieces that started off as a completely different concept and morphed into its own thing during the carving process. The final piece is a mash up of a red and white mushroom (Amanita muscaria) and a certain Italian plumber. He measures about 8" x 3.5".

Old Man Logan  (Available)

Based more on the comic series than the recent movie, this gentleman is a future version of Wolverine that is weathered, grizzled, and always seems to be angry. He measures about 9" x 3".

Rorschach  (Available)

"We are all puppets... I'm just a puppet who can see the strings". By far the most dynamic and well-developed character from The Watchmen, he's best known for his ever-changing mask. Rorschach measures about 9" x 3.5" .

Count Orlok  (Available)

Count Orlok from the silent film Nosferatu. When I began this mysterious gentleman, I was a bit anxious about how his eyes and teeth would turn out, as they are his most striking features. With that said, I am very happy with the detail that came out in the finished product.  He measures about 10" x 3".

The King's Justice  (Available)

For fans of Game of Thrones, this gentleman in the executioner's mask is how I pictured Ilyn Payne when I read the novel. For fans of the show, I fully realize that this fellow doesn't resemble Wilko Johnson. Lastly, I really don't think you could arrive at a more suitable name for an executioner.  He measures about 8.5" x 3".

Bats  (Available @ Flashback Toys & Collectibles, Stevens Point, WI)

This piece was commissioned by a friend of mine for his collectible toy store in Stevens Point, WI. This version of Batman was modeled after the Arkham Asylum video game series. He measures about 10" x 3".

Mr. J.  (Available @ Flashback Toys & Collectibles, Stevens Point, WI)

This piece was commissioned by a friend of mine for his collectible toy store in Stevens Point, WI. This version of the Joker was modeled after the Arkham Asylum video game series. He measures about 12" x 3".

Older Designs / Sold Pieces

Cthulhu  (Sold)

"That is not dead which can eternal lie, and with strange aeons even death can die" He measures about 14" x 4".

Ursula  (Sold)

This piece was a special commission that took me a bit of time to puzzle out the base design. Once I found a piece of bark that was large enough, I had the added challenge of trying to layer in her tentacles. This was one of my most challenging pieces to date and I'm very happy with how she turned out. She measures about 12" x 8".

Pinhead  (Sold)

"You solved the box. We came. Now you must come with us. Taste our pleasures..." He measures about 10" x 5", nail tip to nail tip.

Ziggy Stardust (Sold)

This carving was done as a commission piece, and I'm very happy with the way it turned out. The very best part of this piece, in my opinion, is how Bowie's contrasting irises turned out. He measures about 9" x 3.25"

Old Man Kratos  (Sold)

This was a special commission piece that is the companion piece to the "Kratos, God of War" piece I complete a while back. Once again, the detail that this piece turned out to have is really beyond most any of my other pieces, and I am thrilled with how this guy turned out. He measures about 10" x 3.5".

Kratos, God of War  (Sold)

For those who may not know, this is the title character in, arguably, one of the best video game series ever made. This was a commission piece that I have been sitting on for quite some time. With the intricacy of the detail in this piece I wanted to make double sure that I had the correct piece of bark AND that I was confident enough with my own skills to do the character justice. As it turns out, I'm glad I waited to complete this piece because I think he's one of the most accurate and detailed pieces I've ever done. He measures about 8" x 3.25".

Pan (Sold)

This piece came about after I spoke with a few people at my booth during the Crafty Fair in 2019 and I determined I wanted to expand my pieces into more feminine and Nature influenced pieces. Well, I'm still working on the feminine, but what better subject for a more Nature based piece than the God of the Wild himself: Pan. I recall very clearly seeing a goat-like shape as I started outlining this piece, but the curvature of his face and the flowing goatee proved more of a challenge than I initially anticipated. I do, however, really like the finished result. He measures about 17.5" x 2.5"

Baby Groot  (Sold)

This little guy was created as a prize for one of the occasional "Free Giveaway" drawings I have held on my Crass Carvings Facebook Page.  I am very happy with the subtle contours of his features and the way the furrows in his forehead came out.  He was designed in a 'bust' style (with the collar of his costume framing the bottom of the piece); however, being a 'baby' he is a bit smaller than a normal 'bust', measuring only about 6" x 3".

Jason  (Sold)

Jason came about as a special commissioned piece (in tandem with Freddy), where I was given free reign as to what the final product would look like.  After spending a good deal of time referencing tons of production photos online, I was able to mock up the design from multiple angles with accuracy of detail in mind. I'm especially proud of the depth I was able to incorporate, and I think the resulting shadows add even more creepiness to this already terrifying fellow.  I really love all of the small details I was able to incorporate into this piece, like the riveted leather straps on his mask, and the natural crack of the bark that was able to mimic a machete wound.  Jason was, up to that point, one of the most detailed and complicated pieces I have ever undertaken and I am very happy to have the opportunity to attempt recreating such an iconic character.

Freddy  (Sold)

Freddy also came about as a special commissioned piece (in tandem with Jason), and the only special instruction I was given was to make sure and carve Freddy with his hat on.  After spending a good deal of time referencing tons of production photos online, I was able to mock up the design from multiple angles with accuracy of detail in mind. I'm especially proud of the depth I was able to incorporate, and I think the resulting shadows add even more creepiness to this already terrifying fellow.  I really love all of the small details I was able to incorporate into this piece, like the look of all of his facial scars and the texture of his sweater collar.  Freddy was, up to that point, one of the most detailed and complicated pieces I have ever undertaken and I am very happy to have the opportunity to attempt recreating such an iconic character.

Gizmo  (Sold)

"Listen... There are some rules you've got to follow. Perhaps someday, you will be ready. Until then, Mogwai waits."

Groot  (Sold)

What more can be said than: "I AM GROOT!"  While searching through my usable carving blanks I found this massive 14" x 5" piece that resembled the Guardian of the Galaxy so much that there was little else I could do with it.  This big guy was created as a prize for one of the occasional "Free Giveaway" drawings I have held on my Crass Carvings Facebook Page.

M. Tom  (Sold)

"Planet earth is blue and there's nothing I can do..."

Willie  (Sold)

This gentleman came about because I was looking to expand on my basic skull design and was, incidentally, my first 'Pop Culture' carving.  Notice, he only has one eye...
